I grew up eating Spam once or twice a week, then went for years without any. I was camping once and went into town for supplies, saw some on the shelf and decided to try it. I was always told the name was a contraction of "spiflicated (sp?) ham" and it was as good as any other luncheon meat. My memory was that I quite liked it.

What was in that can bore NO resemblance to what I remembered. It was salty, laced with a gelatinous, fatty yuk and had a half inch of suet on top.

'Fraid I'm in the don't-like-it camp now.
