Thread Name: Lyr Req: True Blue Bill (from Gene Autry)
Subject: RE: truthful fellow
OK here's the story. Some years ago I was taping songs off of Backporch Music radio program which I think comes out of Chapel Hill, NC. Anyway, I just found the old tape and there are only two verses on the tape. There's a fiddle, clawhammer banjo, and the guy singing it sounds like an old mountain man. It goes: I grew up in the mountains, Up whar the snakes have legs, Where the hoot owl speaks in english, And the rooster lays boiled eggs.

I'm a truthful fellow, They call me true blue bill, I've never told falsehood, And I guess I never will

I shaved my beard and mustache, The mornin I was born, That day I beat up my old man, (I can't make out this line)

There are more verses but they got erased. I think there's something about where he goes to England and marries a queen????????? Help.............
