Actually, did you know, (I start to talk like this in the pub around 9.30 - 10 o'clock, to complete strangers) there are more words in the English language than in any other? And where we don't just happen to have the mot just we'll happily pinch somebody else's, unlike some languages (no names, no pack drill!). I have to say, though, I rather enjoy the way the Germans won't invent a new word when four or five old ones will do the job just as well: why call something a tank when you can call it an armoured warfare vehicle? And where else would they have a word for attempt on the life of the aunt of a Hottentot potententate?
