I spent many summers working in a town called Lisdoonvarna in Co. Clare. About five miles from there you will arrive at Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher. Doolin is regarded as one of the spiritual homes of traditional Irish music. I once asked about the song, one of my mothers favourites, and was told that it actually is about the Cliffs of Moher. To this day I am still puzzled but it's what I've been told.
