I flew on United a couple weeks ago with my guitar to play an audition. I was forced to check it and sign a waiver for possible damages. I got to carry it on coming home, though I got stopped for a "random" security inspection even after getting through metal dectors and past soldiers armed with m-16's. I couldn't afford a second seat or flight insurance though. I think the security is going a little too far.
