I think what misophist was getting at was that too much control over "intellectual property" kills the property and ensures no one else will want to perform it. I may not like what someone does to a song I wrote word-wise, melody or arrangement-wise, but I don't think I'd ever try to stop anyone from doing it.There is only one instance and one version of Van Gogh's "Starry Night," and that is all there will ever be.
