Well Susan it's a long story....but it had to do with people hiring other people from other countries to manage cattle in the first country. Those people (from the other country) brought guitars to sing with after they'd managed the cattle, but since they liked to sing while ON their horses, they used little guitars, which morphed into even LITTLER guitars.......
