Ah, congruence!

I went to see Si Khan on Friday night. I am sorry to say it was not a packed house. Wonderful performer. He has a warm voice and an idiosyncratic guitar style, but his heart makes up for whatever else is lacking. Lovely songs and very singable choruses.

Well, at one point, Si talked about his friend Ephraim Woodie and Ephraim's early recordings as Ephraim Woodie and the Hen-Pecked Husbands.

Ephraim talked about one song being cut short by the recording engineer. The engineer said they only had 2 minutes and 45 seconds for the take and Ephraim would have to cut off the final verse. Well, Ephraim did what he was told. It was a sort-of gospel number which talked about ways to handle the devil if you should encounter him. Si listened to the song and said it seemed there should have been room for the last verseand he asked Ephraim to sing it. To paraphrase the verse it went, "you throw the devil in a pit and hit him over the head with a crock of s**t." Si figures that the engineer was just "editing" the song for commercial purposes. I suspect he's right about that.

So, today I encounter Ephraim on a thread. My, my, my.
