Curse of St. Pat's day indeed. I picked up a last minute gig for St. Patrick day with a friend of mine. Sounded real easy, you know, just play background tunes for a private party. Minimum pay but we figured the ease of the gig plus the presence of a tip jar justified it. So then the guy setting it up calls back to say he's got a friend who's a violin soloist who'd like to play along. And then he calls back and says he doesn't want to go broke on this deal and can he share the tips, oh, and by the way, here's a list of cheesy Irish songs we'd like you to do. Well, we set him straight on the tips business and I told the guy that I'd sing if he didn't mind my using a music stand to sight read the songs. Yeesh! Some easy gig.
