"A charmed life is about to take another undeserved turn and deposit me in the States for a week."..........That's what you think now because you haven't been to Lafayette.

My best advice is to enjoy the time you have in Chicago and New Orleans because those three nights in Lafayette will be the longest you ever spent. Like western Ohio and through Illinois, you are in the heart of midwestern farm country and to say it's flat is understatement. If a dog takes a crap, it qualifies as a major hill in the area. Additionally though you can visit the end of the earth which is just outside Lafayette! You're a hundred miles from Chicago and 70 miles from Indianapolis which means you are in the middle of nowhere. Outside of crop talk, I'm sure if you stop by any local diner you can get into a thrilling argument over the merits of various recipes for corn relish.
