Recently I fell down the stairs and was on crutches for a while. I have now been refered to a physiotherapist until I can see a consultant. I have returned today from an appointment after being told I need a 'gate assesment' on my hips as they are not alligned. I was told that I will need a hip replacement by the time I am 30 and a knee replacement by the time I am 40. I am very worried. I am 21 and have had a lot of problems with my knees. Does anyone know what a gate assesment is??? and is it likely to hurt?! I am also worried that you are only supposed to have 2-3 relacements in a lifetime and I am young and resonabley active although I have been told that this will deteriorate over the next few years. Can anyone offer any advice?
