Sean-Nós Cois Life 1999

Our main week-end of events will run from

8th - 11th April 1999

and we have invited the following singers to lead sean-nós singing classes for adults (Cost £16; Tape and words of songs provided) :

Páidí Mhárthain Mac Gearailt (Corca Dhuibhne),
Sorcha Ní Mhonacháin (Tír Chonaill),
Máirtín Tom Sheáinín Mac Donncha (Conamara),
Colm Ó Méalóid (Ráth Cairn).

Those without any previous knowledge of sean-nós singing are welcome.

We shall also provide a class for children during the week-end with

Mairéad Ní Fhlatharta (Conamara) as tutor (Cost £5; Tape and words of songs provided).

A lecture will be given titled 'Séamus Ennis i gCarna' by Seosamh Ó Cuaig.

A session will be organised each night of the festival in a different venue. Amongst the singers and musicians who have been invited to take part are the following :

Dara Bán Mac Donnchadha (Conamara),
Conal Ó Gallchóir (Dún na nGall),
Neidí Ó Gallchóir (Dún na nGall),
Timmy Collins (Co. Luimnigh, Concertina)
as well as many other performers.
Some of these sessions will be bi-lingual.

Cáit Bab Feiritéar (Corca Dhuibhne)
will stage a story-telling workshop and Seosamh Ó Neachtain (Conamara) will lead sean-nós dancing classes (Cost £16).

Many of these artists seldom perform in Dublin.

At a reception each year we present a specially commissioned sculpture from the hand of artist Clíodhna Cussen, to someone who we feel has in some way enriched the singing tradition. We also organise a number of sessions throughout the year inviting various singers and musicians from different regions of Ireland to partake.
