I'd like to suggest a different viewpoint here as to who won the war for the Allies...

Adolf Hitler did!

He committed so many outrageous acts, and made so many incredible strategic political and military errors between 1939 and 1945 that the Germans were guaranteed to go down to destruction.

Of course, he also basically started the war...still, I think we all should thank him for holding back the panzers at Dunkirk, invading Russia in '41, declaring war on the USA right after Pearl Harbour, giving little or no priority to Germany's atomic bomb project, and so on.

I think when jimlad used the word "colonies" he was being funny, don't you? I see signs of humour throughout his postings here in fact...although he is making a serious argument at the same time.
