Peg is right, but, there is more to it. There are far more deer in the USA now than there were 200 years ago, and, another factor is the clearing of large tracts of land which has increased the fodder for them. They also love fresh garden veggies aS much as we do, so, if you live near a wildlife refuge you cant have a garden. Ask the people of Cape Elizabeth Maine; the deer there are like sheep, tame and very destructive. They have eaten everything in sight, they are stunted and diseased, but the "blue haired" old ladies make sure there is no hunting because starvation is more natural than being shot.Same with Acadia national park. Did you ever see a deer with a growth the size of a football hanging off its shoulder? Man has a reverse Midas touch; everything he touches turns to shite!
