Don't overload yourself with woollies, yeah it gets cold in Ballarat but no snow to speak of. Certainly not as cold as Chicago or Boston in winter.
When I'm in Ballarat I usually get by with a warm shirt, a woollen pullover and a lined nylon jacket and a couple of Bundaberg dark rums.
