I grew mine aged 21 because I couldn't pass for old enough (18) to be having a drink. In fact I was sometimes offered half fare on the bus, a privilege of the under 14s round our way.

I still have the beard though rapidly approaching 50, I'm taking no chances, and think of the time I have saved.
