Giac, Are you single? I have two copies of "Day Of The Triffids". My all time favorite! Yeah...the whole world is blinded by a meteor shower except our hero who was undergoing eye surgery. (His doctor commits suicide by jumping out a window.) A little girl, running away from boarding school misses the shower by hiding in the baggage compartment of a train, as does an alcoholic scientist tucked away in a lighthouse with his ever enduring wife. They find the secret to killing off the killer plants who sound like a cross between crickets and a cow stuck in the mud.Triffids are attracted to sound - hence a heart-stopping chase of an ice cream truck playing the most annoying music. And the tacky ending - All the blind people of earth stumbling up the steps to Sunday morning service celebrating man's ability to survive and God's mercy. Can't ask for better. Crashing trains and planes, rampant escaped convicts, an orgy consisting of ladies in high heels dancing on tables. Great stuff. I have seen it more than once and also have the book.
