If you're looking for some fine folk music this summer, consider spending a week at Pinewoods Camp, outside Plymouth, Massachusetts, at the Country Dance and Song Society's Folk Music Week.

You get seven days of workshops, singarounds, jamming, and dancing; great food, and fine folks. This year's program is headed by Dick Swaim, with staff including Anita Best, Marge Bruchac, Larkin Bryant, Andy Cohen, Craig Edwards, Mike Fischman, Becky Hill, Seth Houston, Sandy Ives, Caroline Paton, Sandy Paton, Tobias Pearson, Tom Spiers, Baxter Wareham, and Dirck Westervelt.

As they say,
"The spirit and good humor of a Newfoundland house party; the joy and energy of jug band music; traditions from Native America; song makers and singers of New England and the Maritimes; choral singing from the U.S. and around the world; some of the best dulcimer playing to be found anywhere; group singing with the founders of the Golden Ring; great dancing -- all this and more is waiting for you at Pinewoods Folk Music Week 2002."

I've been three times, and look forward to when I can do it again (unfortunately, not this year). I know there are other 'Catters (to say nothing of those on the staff!) who can say good things about this camp -- chime on in, guys, why should this week be under-booked every year?? Spread the word!

CDSS has other fine summer programs at Pinewoods and in West Virginia, too: check under programs at www.cdss.org.
