Thread Name: BS: Worst B-movie actors & actresses
Subject: RE: BS: Worst B-movie actors & actresses
Jeepers but I just love opinions. Mel Gibson is an awful actor: Mel Gibson is a great actor! Just opinion. And I haven't yet seen many "B" film actors yet mentioned. I've seem a lot of character actors mentioned who worked in films tho'

Ward Bond was a first rate actor who specialized in military, trail boss, or priest type rolls, a fatherly figure who was incharge. He should have been given an oscar a few times in supporting roles. The Priest in "The Quiet Man." , the regimental Sargent Major in "Fort Apache." and The CPO in "They Were Expendable" come to mind. And off the top of my head I can't recall a single "B" movie he made after 1941 or so.

Claude Aikens was primarily a stage actor who found he could work as a heavy in films so he did. If you think he was a talentless light weight watch "Inherit The Wind" again some time.

Thats true with Neville Brand as well. He was a clench jawed heavy type until some one discovered his skill at light comedy and he spent several years lamooning and laughing at himself.

Dane Clark was a solid charcter guy in war films and Noire films of the 40's and 50's. The troubled guy grasping a last chance in a lot of films. Sort of a John Garfieled understudy.

So far the only truly "B" movie actress I have seen mentioned was Diana Dors. Yvonne de Carlo was a fine stage comdeienne and a good dancer and singer.

But you have left out Lionel Atwill, Richard Carlson, Shepard Strudwick, Rhonda Fleming, John Hodiak, Tallulah Bankhead, Forrest Tucker...... I most cases the ones who were truly bad were the lead roles who were invented by the stdios because of a pretty face.

Most of the people mentioned all had a few shinning moments on film and a bunch of just OK roles. Not unlike the really fine actors and actresses who we think of as artists.
