Re Marksman, quoting from this archived BBC story:-

"The Department of Justice report showed robbery, burglary and assaults per head of population in England and Wales were higher than in the US, though murder, rape and gun crime was less common."

Depends whether you'd rather be robbed or shot, I guess.
