troll: throughout history there have been those perfectly willing to allow others to fight wars for them. I assume Michael is one of them by the sound of his post.Universal military training in the U. S. is not new. It was talked about in the late 1040's and the result was The Selective Service Act of 1948. All 18 year old boys were subject to the draft and had to serve two years in one of the armed services. If one volunteered for active duty prior to his eighteenth birthday, he could fulfill his obligation by serving one year of active duty, and either four years in the active reserve, or six years in the inactive reserve. One could sidestep active service altogether by volunteering to serve either four or six years in the active reserve. I don't remember which.
I chose the one year route with four years in the active reserve.
