Subject: RE: BS: Billy Bragg takes on the Jubilee
Fortunato,

A Jubilee is a celebration in this context at least to mark the Queen's 50th year on the throne. The Queen as far as I know has zero to do with wage setting (although while we're at it Mr. Blair that minimum wage needs to be more like £5.50 -6.00 to allow people some sort of life and not just an existence)the Queen here has the power to block goverment bills and is the head of state, but a lot of her role is ceremonial rather than actual. As for McCartney singing to the Queen I find that one personally hilarious. This is the man who had, "Give Ireland Back To The Irish", banned on account of it been a political song once upon a time ISTR. Been Irish myself I rather tend to Seamus Heaney's point about No glass ever been raised in our house to the Queen.

On another chance, anyone here live in London where we have one of the few nice things to come from the Jubilee so far - the Buses which have been repainted in a nice new gold coat of paint.
