Subject: RE: Whatever Happened to William Zantzinger?
I feel responsible for bringing this thread back to where it started. Certain priveleged people get away with...........murder. Sometimes. Zantzinger did as far as I know. They did when I was young, before I was born, and even now. You know of things in your town and I know of things in mine. People consider me a jolly guy - they see me and my pals singing and picking in their pubs. But we need to keep on doing whatever it takes to maintain our Constitutional and human rights. Voting, registering new voters, getting scoundrels out of office, and.....writing songs such as Dylan's "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol." Go back to Woody Guthrie, John Steinback, and others. I hope I sense a new activism going on. I enjoy amusing people with my stories and songs but I am seriously angry about things locally - and nationally - and internationally. Since I was a teenager, Bob Dylan has been an important example to me. The power of the pen, the urgent strum of the guitar, the impassioned voice. I hope many will take this long-ago Zantzinger atrocity to heart and be inspired to take any kind of action against arrogance and bigotry in your town or city. This is the most "preachy" I've been on the mudcat, but that's the mood I'm in tonight. I love the old blues song "You see me laughin' - laughin' just to keep from cryin'." Ballyholm, you sound like a funny guy (or bloke?). Let me know if you come to Florida. I ain't got no drum machine.
