ASCAP lists the songwriter as Fred Heatherton and says it was recorded by Danny Kaye and Merv Griffin and others, but doesn't give a copyright date and lists no other songs written by Heatherton. Other sources say the song was written in 1949, or 1944. In the second message, I linked to a he-she arrangement of the song that's just a bit different (click here). The lyrics I posted above are the same as what I remember from the infamous Merv Griffin recording.
