(Traditional, arr. William Jackson, Mae McKenna)"The melody of Laoidh Chaluim Chille is a very ancient Gaelic air which local legend attributes to Saint Columba (Chaluim Chille), a 6th century Irish priest credited with bringing Christianity to Scotland.
Columba was a Gaelic prince of royal blood and from accounts of his life emerges as a combination of meek saint and Celtic warrior. He founded a monastic community on the remote Scottish island of Iona, a site considered sacred long before the dawn of Christianity, and it was upon arriving safely on the shores of Iona after hazardous journey by boat that he supposedly sang "Laoidh Chaluim Chille". Legends around about Columba's miraculous powers, especially over animals, and his life continues to fascinate scholars to this day."GAELIC LYRICS

Now safely ashore we give worship and praise
O Father of glory to thee
From Eire to Alba our torch and our guide
O'er the perilous path of the sea.
CHO: Glory to that Father, Son and Holy SpiritBless the house we shall build o trinity great
O Mary and Michael and Bride
Foundation and floor and portal and roof
And the folk who therein will abide. CHO.May the armour of light put the heathen to shame
May our feet with gospel be shod
May the shield of our faith o'er their arrows prevail
And the sword of the spirit of God. CHO.
