Thread Name: Lyr Add: John Hartford songs
Subject: Lyr Add: TODAY (John Hartford)
Here is a song John Hartford wrote sometime near the end. It was recorded by a friend of his. I taped it off a website but I can't recall where I found it. Just a weak-sounding John --- and his banjo.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Lost forever is yesterday.
I don't believe in tomorrow.
I used to dream of a pot of gold,
It only brought me sorrow.

I used to think that the road stretched on,
And went this whole world 'round,
And now I've learned to live my life,
Before the sun goes down.

'Cause tomorrow, when it finally comes,
And the curtains of dawn fade away,
The hopes of many are crushed to dust,
And they find there ain't nothing but today.

And every day I grow old and die
As though it might be my last,
I kiss the minutes with a thankful smile,
And turn my back on the past.

'Cause tomorrow, when it finally comes,
And the curtains of dawn fade away,
The hopes of many are crushed to dust,
They find there ain't nothing but today.
