MP3 is a technology for compressing digitally recorded music without loss of sound quality - so instead of getting 10-20 songs on a CD you can get 150 or so and they still sound as good. I've only read about this so far, not evaluated the sound quality personally, but with the link above, I'll check it out when I'm home where my PC has a sound card. Of course compression also means much faster download times for getting music off the Internet or e-mail or whatever.

I'm hoping that our beloved Mudcat Cafe will eventually become a prime MP3 site for folk/blues. I guess I should put my money where my mouth is.
