The actual origin of this expression (which I had never heard before) come like so many from the world of golf.One day Greg Norman was playing a round in the Canadian Rockies and passed out at the highest point on the course from oxygen deprivation. Understandably as a lowlander Australian/Floridian, he had no high altitude acclimitization.
He lay there as following foursomes played through, leaping over his recumbent form. It was all downhill from there. The rest is linguistic history.
