Anti-monarchists arrested at Queen's jubilee05.06.2002 3.28 pm
LONDON - A group of anti-monarchist protesters were arrested by British police before celebrations got underway to mark Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee, Scotland Yard said today.
The 41 Britons from the Movement against the Monarchy had gathered for an "Execute the Queen" street party near the Tower Hill area of central London on Tuesday morning, not far from the route later followed by the 76-year-old Queen in an ornate horse-drawn coach.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said the group had been arrested for refusing to co-operate with police by informing officers where they would be demonstrating.
More than a million people packed central London on Tuesday waving flags and cheering the queen at the climax of four days of festivities. Police said there had been no other arrests.
