Thread Name: Lyr Req: The cold wind blew over the sea
Subject: The cold wind blew over the sea
Hi,
when I was in my mid teens, about twenty years ago, there was a series, I think a BBC series, on television. It was about a small village in I think Scotland, about fishing men and an insurance fraud which included sabotage on ships and drowning crew.
The tune for this series however was even more beautiful than the series itself and I even taped it. I lost this tape ages ago, but still can remember part of the lyrics:The cold wind blew over the sea
The cold wind blew over the icy sea
And it took good men
Good fishing men
From their wives and families.
Now there's sorrow and grief,
there's anger in the town,
...
That's what's left of it in my memory and even this might not be correct.
The question is: what was the name of this series, who sang the song, and what are the full lyrics? I once asked Niamh Parsons whether she sang this song but she said she didn't, but it's that kind of voice.
Thanks in advance!
