"Kiss my arse" isn't particularly offensive in English these days, but I suppose saying it in Irish might make it marginally less offensive to those who could be offended by it.

People do that kind of thing often enough - for example, you might get someone saying "merde", and so avoid offending some easily offended listener. But I doubt if anyone would accuse someone who did that of aspiring to pass themselves off as French.
