Most of the Middle Eastern casualties in WWI were death of disease. It was the killing fields of Europe that had the most killed in action or died of wounds. WWII wasn't much better, but the 'mincing machine' was a lot more thorough, and there were more death from wounds. In WWII a soldier would be kept at the front with a wound that in WWI would have been a 'Blighty One'.
