My uncle had a music store in the 70's, died in early 90's. Some new guitars and stuff were just left there for years and some of it was stolen after he died. Saw an obviously new/old les paul in a pawn shop shortly after but serial # records had been lost. Interestingly enough the thieves didn't take the vintage microphones.
