Subject: DT tune corrections
The tune given for 'Making Babies By Steam' in the DT is 'Haste to the Wedding'. This is not correct, in fact I find it difficult to sing the words to that tune. The lyrics were copied from a 1999 message of mine to the IrTrad-L mailing list. Other messages about the song give the correct information that it is sung to the jig "Larry O'Gaff".

Another song that is usually sung to "Larry O'Gaff" is "Humours of Whiskey". The tune given for this song in the DT is "The Cork Road" or "Father O'Flynn" …I think this works okay as the two tunes are fairly similar. But "Larry O'Gaff" is more usually associated with "The Humours of Whiskey".

A few songs in the DT are set to "Larry O'Gaff". One of these is the Squid Jigging Ground. I can't say whether this song is usually sung to "Larry O'Gaff", but I listened to the midi and it is the tune I was looking for.

One tune may have several names, and more than one tune may be called by a particular name. But I would agree that "Haste to the Wedding", "Father O'Flynn" and "Larry O'Gaff" are the names commonly associated with the tunes so-called in the DT. My quibble is which songs they are paired with, especially in the case of "Making Babies by Steam".

I hope this will serve to alert Dick, Susan, Joe to a needed correction. I am thinking of doing a DT study thread on "Making Babies by Steam", though everything you need to know and more is in the "Daniel O'Connell & His Steam Engine" thread. This DT tune correction thread could be used by others who have noticed any discrepancies in the DT sound files.
