Oh, great.

Yes, it may be somewhat 'kewl' to see photographic evidence of a species we haven't seen for years, but how much of a benefit is it to the animal? Did you know that Tanzania's forest resources are managed by the oxymoronic agency of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism? Which do you think brings in more attractive money? Or that Tanzania has an 8-fold resource action program where wildlife management ranks #7 on the list (just above conservation)? And even with the glorious management tools in place, the country still manages deforestation at anywhere from 130,000 to 500,000 hectares a year? Not exactly skittles and beer for an animal that lives in the trees.

Given the overall environmental climate (as well as the BBC report of 'we hope to learn more' which in real terms means scientists, and to my mind a waste of money, when they know darn good and well how to 'save' an area but instead try to 'manage' deforestation) I think our dear genet would have done much better to have gone somewhere else for dinner that night. Some things are better lost.
