Thread Name: BS: Old copies of Broadside/eBay
Subject: Old copies of Broadside/ebay
I saw this post over on the Blues-L list and thought some of you might want to have a look.

For any of you who collect this sort of thing, I have just listed some old issues of early 1960s issues of the New York-based publication "BROADSIDE" for auction on eBay. The issues listed are from early 1962 to early 1963. Many contain the first publication of Bob Dylan songs -- one, issue #6 contains, contains the first ever publication of his tune "Blowin' In The Wind". There are five separate issues up for auction so far, including a May 1963 issue that contains the first ever publication of Tom Paxton's "Ramblin' Boy".

BROADSIDE was a simple publication, run off on what appears to be a mimeograph machine and hand-stapled. I can't imagine that too many of these copies reached circulation outside New York City. Of those that were circulated, in or out of NYC, copies just don't seem to exist any more.

I found these copies of BROADSIDE, as well as others, about 12-13 years ago while helping to clean out an elderly woman's basement on the north side of Chicago. How these issues migrated to the midwest I haven't a clue. But they are all in excellent shape -- very little fading and no tears or missing pages. I've kept them at the bottom of a box in a storage area for over a decade and recently rediscovered them.

I first offered them to the Old Town School of Folk Music Archives, but they said they have all these already. I next offered them to Phil Ochs sister, Sonny Ochs (a friend of mine for over 20 years), but she says she has them all, too --at least the ones that are important to her, containing her brother's songs).

So...up for auction they go.

Here are the websites on eBay for any of you who are curious:
