Thread Name: Lyr Req: Filthy McNasty
Subject: Lyr Add: FILTHY MCNASTY (Horace Silver, Ira Gitler
Google gives "about 2,440" hits on "Filthy McNasty." Whatever its origin, it is a term that has entered our folklore in many quarters.

The jazz tune "Filthy McNasty" was written by Horace Silver and recorded as an instrumental by The Horace Silver Quintet in 1961 on the album "Doin' the Thing (At the Village Gate)." That album is still available as Blue Note CD #84076, 1990. Lyrics were written by Ira (?) Gitler, and vocal versions were recorded by Eddie Jefferson, Bobbi Sherron, and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

I was able to transcribe the following lyrics from a sound sample of Eddie Jefferson's version at CDNOW.

He hangs out in bars.
He's got a few scars.
He's higher than Mars,
And mixed up in cars.
[Couldn't understand this line]
Of course he's a cheat.
He drinks sneaky pete,
And don't eat no meat,
And all the time you hear the women really callin' his name: Filthy McNasty.

He don't own a suit,
A nero or zoot.
He never have loot
Except in his boot.
His body is lean.
His feet aren't clean.
His mouth is real mean
When he's on the scene,
But all the time you hear the women really yellin' his name: Filthy McNasty.
