Thread Name: Help: digitising records, esp. 78s
Subject: digitising records, esp. 78s
I know how to do it, and I've got the kit, but it's the equalisation that's going to be the problem. I've finally bought a turntable that plays 78s (as well as 45s & 33s) and I can now achieve my life's ambition of recording all my records, about 500. The turntable has the RIAA eq built in, so the problem is in two parts: (a) what are the characteristics of the RIAA eq, so I can remove it; (b) were any eqs used on 78s? (mine are mostly UK pressings electronically recorded from the 1930s - 1950s, but some are quite a bit older, mechanically recorded).
I'm using a SB Audigy sound card with Windows 98, and Goldwave to record/process the sound. The aim is to record the disks "as is" and copy them to CDs with some cleaning up of the sound. I'm in no hurry at all to get the job completed: I expect to get many, many hours of enjoyment out of it for years to come! If you can give me any pointers, or any websites, I'd be really chuffed.
