And I think it was Junior Wells who used to sing:

Sews patches on his clothes, stuffs newspaper down in his shoes.

Brownie McGhee's “Pawnshop Blues” included the line:

I asked the pawnshop man what're those three balls doin' on the wall, (2)
He said “I'll bet you two to one buddy, you won't get your stuff out of here at all.”
