When I was in the 3rd grade my father decieded I should learn the uke. So guess what I got for Christmas. As I remember it I was thrilled with it and it fit much better than the guitar. I've since graduated to a baritone uke, guitar, dulcimere, violin and with effort a fiddle. My first performing song was Little Brown Jug. I've yet to figure out why that's the 1st song my dad taught me unless it was the ease of chords, how knows.
