Thanks for the corrections, I did indeed miss the first line off. As for the other discrepancies, this is how it was taught to me and how I've always heard it sung.
You're correct in saying that "yem" is a Geordie word for home and ,coming from the region myself, one I'm very familiar with. It's also often sounded with the "H" as "Hayem", hence my "hame".
I've looked up the song on a couple of sites and both show verses 4 and 5 as I've posted, Keith Hudson makes the same point in his opening post.
Someone in the dim and distant past, either by design or error, changed it and this version is the one currently in circulation.
