The guy with the fridge is a famous English comedian called Tony Hawkes, who did the fridge trip as a bet with fellow comic Arthur Smith.

He serialised the story for radio; probably the funniest bit was when a champion Australian surfer took the fridge surfing. The story had it that when he had got himself, the fridge and the board up on a perfect comber, he opened the fridge and took out a cold beer............
