Thread Name: Lyr Req: Bye Bye My Rosie-Anna / ...Roseanna
Subject: Lyr Add: BYE BYE MY ROSEANNA
I just clicked on Joe's link and realised that all of the message I've written is pretty well redundant - you all knew it already. Anyway, for those of you that have missed it, allow me to direct you to the incredible rendition by the Bright Light Quartet on Southern Journey Vol. 1 from the Alan Lomax Collection (Rounder CD 1701). The harmony is sublime. Come to that the whole CD is incredible, as are all the other volumes I've heard so far. Here are the verses Bright Light sing - with quite a bit of repetition of verses.

Sweet Roseanne, sweet Roseanne,
Bye-bye, sweet Roseanna.
I thought I heard my baby say:
I won't be home tomorrow.

Sweet Roseanne, my darling child,
Bye-bye sweet Roseanna.
Sweet Roseanne, my darling child,
I won't be home tomorrow.

Bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye,
Bye-bye, sweet Roseanna.
Bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye,
I won't be home tomorrow.

The steamboat coming round the bend,
Bye-bye, sweet Roseanna,
It's loaded down with harvest, men.
I won't be home tomorrow.

Don't you want to go home on your next payday?
Bye-bye, sweet Roseanna.
Don't you want to go home on your next payday?
I won't be home tomorrow.

I'm going away but not to stay.
Bye-bye, sweet Roseanna.
I'm going away but not to stay,
I won't be home tomorrow.
