On a serious note, think of how sad it would be if we loose that bet, and this rock becomes lifeless, with no one to appreciate the irony that on this doomed rock, on which single cell animals traped mitocondria and then were able to use oxigen enough to become multicell, developed an eye as trilobites, crawled from the sea, until one day, a highly specialized chimp was able to develope skill enough to use that eye to see the coming danger, to come within a few years out of these billions of billions of years of evolution, to developing the tools to save life on this rock, but failed to have the vision to realize what was more important, living together or dieing a billion deaths alone.
