a friend once had an instrument called a water phone-- i believe it was invented by someone named water or waters...it consisted of a ball or globe 1-1/2 feet in diameter with copper pipes welded--no i guess they would have to be brazed(?) on to it around the perimeter ("equator")--hard to describe, but the tubes were of differing lengths, and the whole thing was hollow and filled with water--then you would play the tubes with a bow--seemed like a bass fiddle bow--it was short and stocky--and you would hold the thing and swish the water around inside and it would emit the most out-of- this world swirling sounds...now that is fantasy!! also a little thing that i remember playing with during the same era--25 years ago--a little piece of brass wire (which rang like a bell) which was suspended on a piece of monofilament (fishing line) which you would wrap around your pinkie (litle fingers) while you put your fingers in your ear--once again hard to put into words, and it sounds a bit goofy--anyway you would strike the metal wire and the reverberatiing sound would travel thru the fish line, thru your fingers and bounce around off your skull like you were in a very mysterious tunnel. both quite fantastic experiences...so fantasy instruments. both sounded kind of like synthesized sound but just simple organic sound makers....invented by whacked out hippies I presume--california in the 60's, you know...
