Thread Name: Origins: Peace in the Valley (Thomas A. Dorsey)
Subject: RE: Peace in the Valley
Joe, the 2 versions that I have handy - R.H. Harris on 'Precious Lord: Recordings of the Great Gospel Songs of Thomas A. Dorsey' Columbia CK 57164 and Sister Rosetta Tharpe on 'The Great Gospel Women' Shanachie 6004 - both accord, with minor changes, with the first stanza and chorus of your posted version and the third stanza of the Cash version, but both have: 'The host from the wild ...' though. Neither version has a 'flowers and grass' stanza.

I am tired and weary but I must toil on
Till the Lord comes to call me away,[oh yes]
Where the morning is bright
And the Lamb is the light
And the night is as fair as the day

CHORUS
There'll be peace in the valley for me, some day
There will be peace in the valley for me, Oh lord, I'll pray
No more sorrow and sadness or trouble will be
There will be peace in the valley for me

The bear will be gentle and the wolf will be tame,
And the lion will lay down by the lambj, [oh, yes]
The host from the wild will be led by a child,
I'll be changed from the creature I am - Yes!

Chorus
