Rick, it seems like many of the pilgrims want the magic, and to belong to something bigger than themselves. It's the way I believe people feel when they buy into a cult. (Or extreme fandom: early Beatles - scream, faint, etc.) If such a thing is worthy of such devout fanatacism, it can't very well have 'real-world' imperfections, can it? If you're going to follow anything unquestioningly, there can't be anything to question, can there? There are probably kids out there who think and question, but they aren't the ones your talking about.
