Thread Name: What is the saddest song?
Subject: RE: What is the saddest song?
Several candidates in a number of categories. What Families Do to Each Other - Sonny's Dream, Harry Chapin's Cat in the Cradle; Tyrannical fathers - Anachie Gordon, Bonnie Susie Cleland, Arbutus; War - Previously mentioned No Man's Land, The Band Played Waltzing Matilda and Dancing at Whitsun, also Flowers of the Forest, Rosemary's Sister; Native American Persecution - My Country 'Tis of Thy People You're Dying, Heart of the Apaloosa. The whole genre of folk and traditional music seems tilted more toward sadness than joy. Does that reflect life in general or am I just in a bad mood this morning ? We need to accept the mix but emphasize the upbeat.
