I first learned this song back in the late '50s frrom a recording by Ewan MacColl, who had learned it from his father who is also credited with the tune as he "...didnae tak tae the ither yin."

I think that just about all the versions currently sung derive from this source, but very few, if any, contain all of MacColl's verses.
