Guest makes good points, albeit in a somewhat abrasive tone. It occurs to me (being an immigrant) that it should be up to newcomers to any social-interaction situation, be it a country, a music session, or an internet discussion forum, to discern the accepted patterns of behaviour, and to adapt their own behaviour with the purpose of "fitting in".
One of the main reasons that immigrants tend to be viewed with suspicion is the fact that many of them insist on maintaining their old customs unchanged, in effect ghettoizing themselves. It seems to take at least two following generations to achieve full assimilation. I think that in the case of the gangs and rapists referred to above, we're dealing with the second generation, the sons of the immigrants.
